The Nature of Silk
At Liu&Liu, our products are crafted from 100% pure mulberry silk, a natural fibre prized for its unmatched softness, elegant sheen, and breathable quality. Silk is not only luxurious — it’s also naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, meaning it doesn’t retain odours or bacteria the way synthetic fabrics do.
This means you don’t need to wash your silk items after every wear. Less frequent washing helps preserve the fibre’s strength, softness, and beauty over time.
How to Clean Your Silk
Recommended: Dry Clean
For the best results — especially for structured garments like robes or dresses — we recommend dry cleaning. It’s the safest way to preserve the integrity of the fabric, color, and delicate seams.
Washing at Home
You can hand-wash your silk at home, but please treat it gently.
Follow these steps:
1. Use cold water (below 30°C / 86°F).
2. Add a few drops of mild silk detergent (or baby shampoo).
3. Gently agitate the water — do not rub, wring or soak for longer than 3–5 minutes.
4. Rinse with cold water until clear.
Drying Tips
- DO NOT tumble dry.
- Lay flat on a clean towel or hang to dry in the shade — avoid direct sunlight, which can fade and weaken the fabric.
- Let gravity do the work — silk dries fast and naturally retains its shape.
What About Wrinkles?
Silk is a delicate fabric and may develop minor creases after washing. No stress — they’re easy to remove:
- Hang the item on a padded hanger.
- Use a steamer or steam iron on low heat (inside out, ideally with a pressing cloth).
- Light steaming will restore the natural flow and sheen of the silk.
What to Avoid
- Bleach or harsh detergents
- Fabric softeners
- Washing machines (especially spin cycles!)
- Hanging in direct sunlight
- Storing wet or damp silk
